Front End Software Engineer

Type: Full-Time (W2) On-Site/ Hybrid, Arlington, VA

DeepSig Inc. is a venture-backed and product-centric technology startup building revolutionary wireless processing software solutions using cutting-edge machine learning techniques to transform baseband processing, wireless sensing, and other key wireless applications.

We are seeking a full-time Front-End Software Engineer who will help lead the development, design, planning, and testing of web applications and data visualization tools at DeepSig. These commercial and federal software products offer capabilities spanning RF sensing, modem development and machine learning training routines.  We seek candidates who have strong software experience with building cohesive and intuitive web applications focused on providing a positive user experience.

What You’ll be Doing:

  • Software development and interfacing with the software team to architect, design, and implement products using TypeScript, React, WebSockets, CSS, HTML5, and Redux.
  • Working with product leads, R&D team, customers and the full spectrum of feature and prototype development, and work with production ML & DSP web-based applications.
  • Working with rapid productization, test, and deployment of applied research software in a fast moving and small environment where you will touch systems end-to-end.

What We Need to See:

  • A strong knowledge of software development and software engineering practices.
  • Strong experience with TypeScript, React, WebSockets, CSS, and HTML5.
  • Experience working with Redux, Python, Linux, Git, Docker, and modern CI/QA frameworks is a plus, as is previous experience working with or an interest in open-source projects and communities.
  • Strong communication and teaming skills to work collaboratively and productively in a small company environment where we often wear multiple hats.
  • Minimum B.S. in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering with at least three years of experience, or M.S. with at least one year of experience.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States by US Person status to meet certain information processing and contract requirements.

Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Type: Full-Time (W2) On-Site/ Hybrid, Arlington, VA

We are seeking a visionary and technically proficient Principal Machine Learning Engineer to lead our advanced research and development initiatives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in one or more of the following areas: Deep Learning, RF Sensing, Statistical Signal Processing, Wireless Systems (particularly 5G), and Time/Frequency Analysis of Signals. In this role, you will drive the creation and implementation of innovative machine learning models and solutions that advance our capabilities in these cutting-edge domains.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a team of machine learning engineers. Develop and execute the strategic vision for integrating machine learning into RF sensing, signal processing, and wireless communication systems.
  • Spearhead the design and development of advanced machine learning models for wireless communication applications like RF spectrum sensing, channel equalization and estimation, channel modeling. Innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible in these fields.
  • Provide deep technical expertise in wireless systems, particularly 5G technologies, to inform the development of algorithms and models that enhance system performance maintaining latency and compute budget.
  • Identify and tackle complex challenges in the areas of signal processing and wireless systems using advanced machine learning techniques. Lead initiatives to explore and implement novel solutions.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within scope. Allocate resources effectively and manage project risks to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence. Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machine learning and related fields to guide the team effectively.

Qualifications:

  • D. or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on machine learning, signal processing, or wireless systems.
  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience in the related field
  • Proficiency in machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and programming languages (e.g., Python, C++).
  • Strong background in one or more of the following: wireless communications, signal processing, machine learning, deep learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of engineers and scientists, with a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Deep understanding of current trends and advancements in machine learning, RF sensing, statistical signal processing, and wireless systems, particularly 5G.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in managing entire Machine Learning engineering lifecycle – from system design to model development to model training to system testing and optimization.
  • Experience with real-time signal processing, DSP platforms, or embedded systems.
  • Experience with building Machine Learning applications for edge deployment.
  • Ability to write and / or review production level code (Python, C++) is strongly preferred.
  • Contribution to the field of Machine Learning and / or Wireless Communication through publications in leading conferences and journals

Wireless Software Engineer - SIMD Design Specialist

Type: Full-Time (W2) On-Site, Arlington, VA (Remote Possible)

We are seeking a full-time Senior Software Engineer who will be an integral part of our growing team – contributing expertise in Signal Processing, Software Radio, Machine Learning, and 3GPP wireless systems to design, develop, and integrate groundbreaking 5G/6G capabilities for a variety of customer hardware platforms. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a flexible and dynamic environment while leveraging our ML team to integrate intelligence and adaptability into our 5G offerings. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working with Intel or ARM-based SIMD instruction sets, FPGA-based Digital Signal Processing (DSP) design and implementation, and/or significant experience designing and implementing DSP-processor accelerated solutions.

Some of What You’ll be Doing:

  • Design, develop, and optimize software-based SIMD-focused solutions for 5G wireless communications systems.
  • Work with and integrate our software within vRAN physical layers such as FlexRAN, OAI, or Aerial SDK.
  • Work with the rest of the 5G team to propose conventional DSP solutions to augment and improve our existing capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the ML design team to ensure solutions can be effectively and efficiently implemented within the GPP instruction set and compute constraints.
  • Implement the ML-design team’s concepts into AVX-accelerated fixed-point software solutions.
  • Work with DeepSig RAN engineers to deploy and validate DeepSig’s 5G capabilities
  • Continuously explore and incorporate new technologies and methodologies to improve product performance and competitiveness.
  • Utilize version control systems such as Git and project management tools like Jira to coordinate collaborative development efforts.

What We Need to See:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • An interest in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and leveraging AI for RF applications.
  • 5+ years of professional experience with Digital Signal Processing, particularly as it relates to Software Defined Radio and/or Machine Learning
  • 5+ years experience with C++
  • Proven experience in SIMD instruction set-based, FPGA-based, or DSP-processor-based fixed-point design and implementation for wireless communication systems.
  • Experience with C, Python, MATLAB/Octave, Jupyter Notebooks, CMake, Linux, and Docker
  • Proven ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced, and dynamic startup environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

3GPP Wireless Communications Engineer

Type: Full-Time (W2) On-Site, Arlington, VA (Remote Possible)

We are seeking a full-time Wireless Communications Engineer who will be an integral part of our growing team – contributing expertise in Signal Processing, Software Radio, and in particular, 3GPP wireless systems to design, develop, and integrate groundbreaking 5G/6G capabilities for a variety of customer hardware platforms. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a flexible and dynamic environment while leveraging our ML team to integrate intelligence and adaptability into our 5G offerings. The ideal candidate will have considerable expertise with the technical aspects of the 3GPP specifications, including the implementation and design of mathematically optimal receivers, as well as a strong knowledge of the current state of the art of existing and near-future RAN implementations.

Some of What You’ll be Doing:

  • Help optimize machine-learning enhanced 5G receiver technology by identifying novel ways to prepare objective functions based on non-linear implementations for massive MIMO systems
  • Stay updated with current and future 3GPP specifications, study items, and work items.
  • Drive the roadmap of future development by identifying key areas where non-linear, ML-enhanced solutions will have the most impact.
  • Design and implement reference receivers, reference signals, simulated transmitters, channel conditions, and combined scenarios to improve the training and validation of our 5G capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the ML design team to ensure solutions are efficiently implemented and scalable

What We Need to See:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in 3GPP transmitter and receiver design and implementation
  • Strong proficiency in MATLAB with a focus on signal processing, communication, and 5G toolboxes
  • Familiarity with Python, and experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch preferred.
  • Deep understanding of 3GPP specifications covering LTE through 5G, with awareness of Rel 18 and 19 activities and 6G developments
  • Proficiency in using simulation tools to model and analyze the performance of wireless communications systems, including link-level and system-level simulations.

Machine Learning DSP Engineer

Type: Full-Time (W2) On-Site/Hybrid, Arlington, VA

We are seeking a Full-time Machine Learning DSP Engineer who will help combine elements of software digital signal processing and software-defined modems with state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to create the next generation of AI-Native wireless communications systems in simulation and in real-deployed products at scale. This person will be responsible for developing and validating machine learning and communications system algorithms and software across modem and/or wireless sensing system solutions.

Description:

  • Build cutting edge Machine Learning models for RF sensing applications
  • Keep up with the latest developments in the field of Machine Learning and assess their viability for RF sensing applications
  • Utilize both Software and DSP techniques to optimize training and inference pipelines
  • Work closely with product managers and business development teams to improve our RF sensing capabilities based on customer feedback
  • Working with real-world RF datasets and ML-driven RF systems that are unique and unrivaled anywhere else in the world

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (Python preferred)
  • Familiarity with at least one of the Deep Learning frameworks (e.g. – PyTorch, Tensorflow etc.)
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Deep Learning, RF Sensing, Statistical Signal Processing, Wireless Systems fundamentals, Time/Frequency analysis of signals
  • Ability to work on open-ended problems, building candidate solutions and coming up with appropriate metrics for comparison

Lead System Test Engineer

Type: Full-Time (W2) On-Site/Hybrid, Arlington, VA

We are seeking a full-time Lead System Test Engineer to join our team in Arlington, Virginia who will help define, automate, and execute test plans for our wireless software products including hardware-in-the-loop testing with advanced Software Defined Radios. This type of work requires expertise with Linux software development best practices, testing software on Linux systems, experience with test automation tools, and interfacing with hardware used in testing, containerization (Dockers), Git repositories, CI/CD test pipelines, scripting languages, and open-source build tools.

Some of What You’ll be Doing:

  • Lead design and automation of system and release testing and automation
  • Work closely with engineering and machine learning teams to understand software and requirements to help develop test suites and automation
  • Help us build high quality tested frontend and backend software products used globally
  • Manage and optimize software artifacts such as containers, test automation, git repositories, radio test equipment
  • Work with collaboration tools: Jira, Confluence, Gitlab, etc. to help document software and test processes, test results, release artifacts, etc.
  • Documenting test improvements and status to product stakeholders and company leadership

What we need to see:

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States by US citizenship to meet certain information processing and contract requirements.
  • Experience testing software products and automating test processes.
  • A firm understanding of the software development lifecycle and testing best practices.
  • Comfort with automated testing and deployment of production level software, e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, scripting languages, Jira, Git projects.
  • Familiarity with C++ and Python and build tools (e.g. cmake, python setuptools).
  • Ability to work in various Linux environments: local, remote, container, virtual machine.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to work collaboratively and productively in a small company environment.

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with test suites like Google Test (GTest) is a plus.
  • Experience testing software products that make use of hardware components, e.g., embedded hardware, IoT devices, sensors, signal generators, etc. is a plus.
  • Familiarity with testing software products that make use of RF components like radios and/or antenna arrays is also a big plus.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining Docker images and software dependencies is a plus.

Education Requirements:

BS in an engineering/computer science field or equivalent work experience.

DSP Software Engineer

Type: Full-Time (W2) On-Site/Hybrid, Arlington, VA

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Experience developing front-end controllers for software-defined radios (Epiq, Ettus, etc)
  • Experience with real-time processing of IQ sample streams from the SDR front end using optimized CPU (SIMD) and/or GPU (CUDA) kernels.
  • Experience with end-to-end, bidirectional modem development
  • Comfortable developing and optimizing high-performance DSP routines such as FIR/IIR filters, resamplers, detection algorithms, modulators/demodulators, etc
  • Proven experience in SIMD instruction set-based, FPGA-based, or DSP-processor-based fixed-point design and implementation for wireless communication systems.
  • Experience locating and eliminating processing bottlenecks using tools like Intel Vtune/Advisor (CPU) and Nvidia NSight (GPU)

We Would Like to See:
